Our partner Pedro Suárez and associate Javier Pérez Fernández have taken part, as founding members, in the creation and launch of the association “European Circle for Competition Damages” (“The Circle”), formed by renowned experts in the field of private enforcement of competition law in Europe.
Below is the official press release issued by The Circle (published on 1 September 2021, and the original version available at this link):
On 1 September 2021 several European experts in the field of private enforcement of competition law have launched the "European Circle for Competition Damages", a non-profit organization for promoting the study and enforcement of the rules and techniques for the compensation, in all its forms, of damages suffered by any person as a result of infringements of competition law in Europe, in particular as a result of cartels and abuses of dominant positions.
The European Circle for Competition Damages AISBL (“the Circle”) was founded as an international non-profit association governed by Belgian law. The Circle intends to discuss and exchange opinions and experiences on the rules and techniques of compensation as well as their practice. The Circle acts in the interests of the victims of competition law infringements, i.e. the claimants.
The Circle was established by founding members from eight European jurisdictions:
Each of the founding members of the Circle is a specialized lawyer or other leading professional who has a proven track record and a very high level of knowledge and experience in the enforcement of the rules and techniques of compensation for damages resulting from the infringement of competition law. The Circle intends to expand. Membership is by invitation only.
