In a complex and global world, driven by immediacy and the constant development of technology, it is necessary to offer clients alternative methods for resolving disputes which maximise their position and settle their disputes swiftly, reliably and with a high degree of specialisation.
At Ramón y Cajal our lawyers have specialist training, the ability to work in various languages and experience in both national and international arbitration, be this institutional or ad hoc.

We act in arbitration proceedings administered by the main international courts of arbitration, such as the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). Our team also participates in relevant arbitrations administered by Spanish institutions, such as the Court of Arbitration of Madrid of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid (CAM), the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration of Madrid (CIMA), the Spanish Court of Arbitration of the High Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Navigation (CEA) or the Arbitration Court of Barcelona (TAB).

The members of the team are able to act as counsel, arbitrators or independent experts in Spanish law. They belong to the most prestigious national institutions and associations related to the world of arbitration and regularly participate in their conferences and seminars.

Our experience in arbitration covers numerous sectors and matters:

  • Construction and engineering.
  • Energy.
  • Shareholder agreements and corporate disputes.
  • Mergers and acquisitions.
  • Insurance.
  • Commercial distribution and agency agreements.

In particular, we act in the following proceedings:

  • Applications for the nomination of arbitrators.
  • Applications for interim measures (prior or simultaneously to the conducting of the arbitration proceedings).
  • Applications for annulment against arbitral awards.
  • Recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.

The group of lawyers responsible for the arbitration practice at Ramón y Cajal also acts in mediation proceedings, as an alternative solution to traditional dispute resolution methods. The aim is to endeavour to preserve the relationships existing between the parties, to find an optimum solution to the dispute and to avoid the risk implied by a court or arbitral ruling against their respective interests. Our lawyers advise national and international clients as counsel in mediation proceedings.
